T he manga series was really good, and this novel despite not having anything to do with the Death Note is just as good. It serves as prequel in which we are introduced to L more intimately. Misora, whom we met in the manga series, is one of the main characters. The novel tells us of a battle of wits between L and and a murderer responsible for 3 deaths.
The 3 murders interest L enough for him to start an investigation, and he chooses Misora as his eyes and hands. At the scene of the first murder she meets Ryuzaki, another detective investigating the same murders, who has very strange habits and and even stranger approach to investigation. Together they dissect the crime scene together, discovering some really obscure clues that point to the second murder victim. At the second crime scene they find more clues that point to the third victim. With this information they go to the third crime scene with the intent to find out where the fourth murder will occur so they can prevent it. But the mysterious Ryuzaki is hiding something from Misora. To find out what, read this book which is narrated by another character we all know from the manga series: Mello.
This is a good read, and is essential for fans of Death Note. Not as good as the series, but entertaining.
